Funding Opportunities
In the qualification phase between the doctorate and the professorship, it is extremely important to secure one’s own third-party funding – whether for one’s own position or an independent research project, to conduct research abroad, or to organize a conference.
The departments of Freiburg Research Services available to support you in these matters are the Science Support Centre and EU Office.
Freiburg Funding Portal
The Freiburg Funding Portal provides an efficient means of searching for funding opportunities for your research projects online. The database includes more than 500 active funding programs from national and international organizations as well as calls for proposals from the university.
University of Freiburg Funding Programs
The University of Freiburg provides funding to help postdoctoral researchers implement new research ideas and issues calls for proposals for initial funding twice a year for this purpose. The Science Support Centre coordinates the application and selection procedures and advises applicants:
The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) offers a variety of research funding formats for junior researchers:
- FRIAS Junior Fellowships
- conferences for junior researchers
- Marie S. Curie FRIAS COFUND Fellowship Program
- Volkswagen Foundation/Mellon Fellowships
- funding for advanced junior researchers within the context of the Joint Fellowship Program Freiburg-Strasbourg
Special State Funding Programs
The State of Baden-Württemberg offers several funding programs for postdoctoral researchers in the qualification phase. The Science Support Centre coordinates the application procedure for University of Freiburg applicants and advises those interested in applying for the programs:
